GC5 Vintage

On Saturday after we realized the antique fair wasn't going to happen and that the flea market was closed and we couldn't see the Pyrex Lady, we decided to drive a little outside of Raleigh to a vintage store my friend told me about.  We drove up and these are a few of the things that were outside.  I knew it was going to be awesome inside if the outside looked like this.

When we walked in and I was in love.  They set the place up like it was a house, so it was a really cool way of going through everything.  All the items they had handpicked and bought themselves.  You could really tell by the quality of all the items.  The prizes were also really reasonable for vintage stuff.  I was really surprised!  Especially their pieces of furniture!  My husband and I fell in love with this couch:

The couch, coffee table, and another table were $525!!! I couldn't believe it! If we weren't moving we would have definitely figured out a way to buy these pieces. I'm so sad that we couldn't get it! But we are trying to downsize our belongings, so we don't have to move so much. I don't think buying this would have been a good way of doing that! I would have looked so good on that thing.

I spent so much time looking at all the scarves.  I fell in love with the one above.  It was more of a handkerchief and I've never been to Washington, but it was so cute!  I really regret not buying it.  I could have started a state handkerchief collection!

The clothing in the back had some really amazing pieces.  Check out that red cape in the middle!!!  I could have used that for the winter in Minnesota!

My friend ended up buying the teal spoon on the left.  It is pretty adorable.  I should have bought the mushroom embroidery.  I felt too guilty about getting anything, so I walked away with nothing!  Ugh!  I hate my conscience sometimes!

If you're ever in the Raleigh area, you should drive up to Wake Forest and browse GC5 Vintage.  Its totally worth it!  The owners are at the store and were really nice.  They are also up for answering any of your questions!  Here is some of the store's information:

Do you have any awesome vintage stores in your area?

Antique Capital of the World

cameron, nc antique fair
My husband and I were really excited about Saturday because we were going to Cameron, NC for an antique fair.  Their claim to fame is that they are "the Antique Capital of the World," but I'm pretty sure that they have made that claim themselves and its not true.

So we drive over to Cameron and when we get to the town there are cars lined on both sides of the road and we're still in the woods.  I'm thinking to myself "man, we're going to have to walk a couple of miles to get to the fair, because there is no sign of pavement parking lots or any kind of downtown area."  Well...  There wouldn't be any either.  There was basically a 200 ft. area of buildings, not really any pavement anywhere, so all 250 vendors from all over the country were in the grass.  Remember, we have two kids that were going to be in strollers.  And it wasn't just flat, it was like we were on the outskirts of the mountains.

We decided not to go.  It would have been way to hard to maneuver the two strollers in the grass with the other 50,000 people that were going to be there.  It was really sad, because from the car I could see so many awesome items!  Not to mention the 12 antique stores that Cameron has alone.

We were going to try to go to the flea market to see the Pyrex lady, but it was closed for the state fair!  We were determined to do some vintage shopping that day.  We drove another hour north and went to an amazing vintage shop called GC5 Vintage in Wake Forest, NC.  I was not disappointed!!!  I'll show some pictures from that visit tomorrow!

Hope everyone's weekend was awesome and your Monday won't be too bad!

Elizabeth Mary is here... And so is my new camera!

newborn feet poses for feet
My daughter finally made it into the world on Tuesday, September 6th at 2:39 p.m.  She was 7 lbs 15 oz and 19 1/4 inches.  The labor went so well!  Checked into the hospital at 9 am and she was here a couple of hours later!  It was insane!

I can't explain how happy I have been these past couple of days.  Even though I have had barely any sleep (and when I do, it only lasting 3 hours) its been wonderful.  My older daughter Maggie has been really sweet to Lizzy and has been pretty patient for a 2 1/2 year old.  I'm trying really hard to get back into the swing of things, catch up on my blog, keeping up with my projects, and doing school.  So far it hasn't worked!  I've only been home since Thursday, so I'll give myself a break. Just know I haven't forgotten about my blog!  I've missed it!

My mom kept Maggie at home while I was in labor and stayed with her the two days I was in the hospital.  I don't know what I would do without my mom.  She is only an hour and a half away and has helped my little family so many times I can't keep count.  I don't know what I'm going to do when I move to Minnesota.  I'm going to miss her so much!

Wednesday I got a package in the mail.  It was my new camera!  I finally broke down and bought it.  Sigh.  I know I shouldn't have, but I'm so glad I did.  I got it on Ebay for $250 and it turned out to be an awesome purchase.  I made sure I bought from someone who had 100% positive feedback as well as a refund policy.  I got a Canon Rebel XT that included a memory card and lens.  I've been playing with it for a little bit and am trying to learn how to do everything on it.  I thought I was going to have time in the hospital to read the manual, but I was sleeping whenever I had a chance.  I'll get around to it...  I hope!

These were just a few shots from this week that I have taken.  I really love it.  Its very easy to use and takes amazing pictures compared to my last one.  They're so clear!  No more grainy images!

I hope everyone's week was as good as mine.  I'm going to get back to doing the lists everyday.  Hopefully I'll be able to manage more than that!  Have a good weekend!

Blog Break

I am going to be taking a little blog break for the next couple of days.  Its almost impossible to sleep at night, so I will be resting most of the days.  I really want to have some energy when I go into labor.  I can't imagine doing it exhausted!  I hope everyone has a good week, and I will talk to you whenever this baby is out of me!  I'm due TODAY so hopefully its soon!

Attack Dog, Projects, and Thrift Finds

This week has been pretty good.  Hit the 38 week mark with my pregnancy, working on a lot of sewing (well, a lot for me), and found out because I am due the 30th of August, my husband won't have to go to a month long training event in September!  Woo!

Our dog Brutus is in love with Dan.  He doesn't really get the licking fits with me or Maggie...  Just Dan.  And he really likes licking his head.  I think it might be rough and feel good on his tongue since Dan always shaves his head.  Well, here's a picture of Brutus going to town.

My projects this week haven't been too exciting.  They are ones that go along with the book I bought, Stitch by Stitch.  One I had to use the applique method of sewing.  It was good to learn, though, because I might use it in the future on some crafts I come up with.

This next one turned out to be a failure.  I was supposed to draw a picture on a piece of fabric and then freestyle sew with the feeder dogs down.  This was really hard.  Because the presser feet were down they held the fabric so tight I could barely move the fabric at all!  In the middle of it I just ended up putting the feeder dogs back up and sewing VERY slowly.

My husband has also been asking me to fix a couple of pair of jeans he has laying around that he doesn't wear because they're too long or have holes in them.  Luckily I was able to fix them!  I'm turning out to be a pretty awesome housewife!

Awhile ago when I was in Minnesota we went to a couple of antique shops.  I said i was going to post my stuff I bought, but I never did.  Whoops!  Here's two of the things I got.  An old 50s ad for Pyrex and two 70's jelly jars with the Archie characters on them.  I used to buy those comics any chance I got.  Especially at the grocery check out line.

I hope everyone's week was good, and that you are going to have an awesome weekend!  Doing anything fun?

Random Stuff Going On

This week has been crazy.  If you don't know, I'm going to school for medical transcription. Its very boring.  Haha, I'm just doing it to make some money while staying at home with the kids.  But I finished my last assessment before my break until Lizzy is born!  Woo!  It will be nice not to have to worry about that.  We also found out this week that Dan's date to get out of the Army was moved 3 months...  earlier.  So that means, we won't be moving in March, We'll be moving in December!  I can't believe it!  We have so much to do until then, and having a newborn is not going to help!  What's also not going to help is the weather.  I'm so scared of the winters there!  Especially having to move during one!  Hopefully it goes well.  I need to find a house!!!

Here's a couple of pictures from this week...

Can you guess what this is?  Haha, I took this picture as a joke cause it looked like a butt.  Its just my husband's knee.

Maggie and I getting ready to go to dinner with my older sister and mom.  Its sad that I won't be able to do this for much longer.  And that I will pretty much be stuck in my house not able to give a good farewell to my friends before we move.

A little black rat snake hanging in our backyard.  I think it was pretty scared because it was kind of backed into a corner and had no where to run when I got close.  When I knelt down to get one of those pictures it's tail started shaking like a rattlesnake's.  I had never seen one of them do that before.  I got a little freaked out and backed away.  I did not want to to turn out to be a baby rattlesnake or something!  I don't think it was because the head wasn't triangular and the body had no patterns on it, but I left just to be safe.

singing with brush
I taught Maggie how to sing with a brush.  Everytime I raised the camera, she would lower the brush.  Sigh.  One day I will get it!

I have been wanting a new camera lately.  The one I have is pretty old, and I would really like a better one.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Also, has anyone ever bought a camera from Ebay before?  I have seen a lot of really awesome cameras for pretty cheap, but I'm scared of buying them used.  It would suck if I bought it and something broke on it right away and I had no warranty!

I joined the 30 Days of Lists for September!  You can preregister (TODAY is the final day!) to get into the drawing for a toy camera!  You will also receive some awesome tutorials to make your own homemade journals out of household items.

I hope everyone's weekend is going alright.  I'm just sitting around the house relaxing and getting through these "practice" contractions before the baby comes!

Roadtrip!!!

the tattooed housewife roadtrip

Today begins our 24 hour trek up to Minnesota.  We're aiming to get there tomorrow by dinner time, but Dan's still at work and its almost 12!  They were supposed to get off at 9:30 today!  I'm really not surprised.  The Army always seems to screw your plans up.

Its our first road trip together.  I'm not really sure if I should be excited about it!  I'm almost 8 months pregnant, and we're going to have a 2-year-old in the car.  Its going to be difficult to keep Maggie occupied.  Especially when she is strapped down for hours on end.  Hopefully, we'll be able to play some DVDs on our laptops.

I will be away from the internet until Monday.  We're staying at his grandparent's house in a small town and they don't have wireless.  We'll be in the Twin Cities on Monday, staying with his aunt, so I'll be able to post then.  Hope you'll be able to cope without me for a couple of days!  Haha.

Have a good weekend everyone!!!
